Michal's Opportunity

Michal Szromnik will guard the goal for United tonight in the final match of the Netherlands training camp against FC Utrecht. The two fixtures played already have seen Marc McCallum and Luis Zwick stake claims for the starting jersey versus Aberdeen on Sunday 2 August. Manager Jackie McNamara now wants Michael to put himself forward. Speaking to the Club website, Jackie said, “Michal has been here a while now and got a taste of it last season but it is now his opportunity to show me he deserves the starting jersey. “All three have looked good in training but it is only when you put them in game situations that you see the person within.” Jackie doesn't believe that any of the goalkeepers have been aided by the order in which they have played the three matches. He said, “They all knew they would have one game in which to put down a marker. Michal will go up against another top team in FC Utrecht and it is three tough teams and fixtures so I don't believe anyone has an advantage over another. This is the time for the whole squad, not just the goalkeepers to impress." The match versus FC Utrecht (7.00pm CET) will be played at Sportpark Sportclub Woerden and full details for supporters attending the fixture can be found here. United will complete pre season with an away fixture versus QPR at Hive Stadium on Wednesday 22 July and a home fixture versus Watford at Tannadice on Saturday 25 July.
